Die Stadt ist im 12. Jahrhundert von Stadtmauern umgeben. Mitte des 13. Jahrhunderts war L\u2019Isle nach Avignon die zweitgr\u00f6\u00dfte Stadt des Marquisats der Provence. Das 16. Hydraulische Energie, die von Schaufelr\u00e4dern gewonnen wird, von denen einige im alten Zentrum aufbewahrt werden, trieb auch andere Industrien (M\u00fchlen, Papierfabriken usw.) und Handwerksbetriebe (Zimmerei, Metallurgie usw.) an. In der Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts schlossen die Fabriken nach und nach, aufgrund des technischen Fortschritts und der Tatsache, dass sie nicht modernisiert wurden.
